During the after Christmas sales, I bought a flannel Zoo-York shirt that is purple. It has quickly become my favorite item of clothing.
Just the other day my wife bought me a Fox Racing hat that has pink it it. I love Fox hats and especially my new one.
My birthday is coming up and I want this Nixon watch that is pink. Nixon watches are awesome anyway, but this one is bold.
All of these fashion items have a commonality of traditionally girly colors. I'm not hidin' nothin', I am just starting to like these colors a lot. I wonder if stores like Pac-Sun didn't carry mens clothing that is purple and pink, if I would have the same interest. Makes you wonder WHO YOU would be if you weren't exposed to the 3,000+ advertisements each day that you are. I'm not being some backwoods fundamentalist freak. On the contrary, I think there is something Biblical to be engaged and invested in our immediate culture. I'm not saying being trendy is the cultural mandate found in Genesis, but I don't think it's against it either. Therefore, I'm gonna rock my pink watch when I eventually get it.
Just don't wear it around Tomy Manis. He will eat you alive. I wish I was a little bit younger to rock some of that stuff. Very cool.
ReplyDeleteYeah, He probably wouldn't be the only one...even my students think I'm weird...they think my TOMS are some kinda hippie shoe...haha
ReplyDeleteI love that stuff...hope you end up getting that watch for your birthday! ;)
ReplyDelete:0 Billy's gone metro... I kid. I hear you on the issue of identity and the role of marketing- good point (and I'm sure there's plenty in my closet that would give Tommy Manis a heart attack).
