Never Give One Back
Jeep recently broadcasted this commercial, and it inspired me to be a Jeep...ish...I mean to be a better me. I am winding down to the last few days of my master's class to finally earn my MAR in Church Ministries. And then more time. More time. A phantom thought, because it's all about perspective. There is a thermodynamic concept that I learned in a communications theory class a few years back that I find functionally haunts me everyday. ENTROPY: basically everything deteriorates without intentional action against it--that is everything from muscle tone, relationships, and maintenance free siding. "Maintenance free" is bull. I figure without having to always be aware of discussion board forums and scholarly, peer-reviewed journals, I will devote my "new time" to things that matter: romancing my wife...enjoying/teaching my rats (kids)...developing a new hobby--climbing. I figure the best way to counter the entropy in those areas is to initiate this transition in the Word. A few weeks back, Pastor Furtick tweeted that he had just finished his 90 day journey through the entire Bible with Elevation Church. 90 days?!?!? Whoa, I've heard of yearly plans, but 3 months? That's intense. So I Googled a 90-Day Bible Reading Schedule. Sooo...if you ask my wife, I'm an extremist to a fault, and after watching the jeep video, I'm gonna amp it up and see if I can do this deal in half the time...yes, the entire Bible in a month in a half...who wants to go in with me? I'm gonna start this Monday, and I know my efforts will not return void. I also know that I might have to get up earlier (maybe a lot earlier) because I'm not gonna neglect the rest of my priorities (don't worry Shooter). If you are consider this, consider just what you will be saturating yourself in:
The Bible is 1 Book - made up of 66 books.
It has 39 in the Old Testament & 27 in the New Testament
It has 40+ Authors who are from all walks of life from 13 different countries on 3 different continents.
It is written in 3 different languages.
From it's earliest writings to the latest writings, there is a 1,600 year time period.
Put it all together and you get:
1 theme: - Redemption of Man
1 hero: - Jesus Christ
1 villain: - the devil
1 purpose: - the glory of God!
Greedily, rightfully seize every ticking moment, and never give one back.

That's a lot of reading there...I always ended up quitting the read-through plans when I hit stuff like Numbers. I made it to Psalms this last time, though. Maybe I'll join you. :)
